I have been using Gillette Platinum double edge razor blades in my safety razor for the last few years, and I'm looking for a better blade. Does anyone have any experience with a better/sharper/smoother blade that they can recommend?

Yep. If you really want the best shave money can buy, spend $143 on their AS-D2 razor. It's a work of art. LINK

Polsilver Super Iridiums or Gillette Nacets. There are a few sites out there that you can order by the blade to sample, get what works best for you.

Why drop that much when a Merkur performs just a well. Haven't tried feather blades - have been using Persona in mine and they are freaking awesome.

Not sure how you can say it works just as well unless you've tried it. I had a Murkur first and then the AS-D2. It's a whole different thing.

I just switched to the Gillette Sensor 2 Plus Disposable Razors...seriously. Cheap as hell & really good shave.

Feather is prob the sharpest. I like Gillette 7 O'clock just as much.

Tell me, can you buy 100 blades for $10 (while still getting as good a shave)???

FYi Merkur and EJ use the same heads, only difference is the handle.

Was not aware of this until I had to buy a new cap as I broke one and had to replace it.

Does anyone else here get really dry skin after shaving? Nothing seems to help. This may sound weird but it's like I have a dry skin smell in my nose for days after I shave.

For that reason, I've only fully shaved twice in the past two years. I use a beard trimmer mostly. I also get dry skin under the mustache area all the time when I have facial hair.

shite sucks

Astra Platinum is my everyday blade.

I also have an adjustable safety razor so that helps make any blade more or less aggressive.

Probably not...I think I paid about .50 or so a piece.

I use Merkur super. I forget the head I have. Dumb question: Are the heads universal? i.e, can the feather blade fit in my head that uses Merkur Super blades?

Is persona better than the Merkur blades? how so?
