Looking for a 2bdr apartment in the area. What are the best areas to live? And also, what areas should be avoided?

Southeast for family. Central/saint streets for night life.
Nothing north of university.
Nothing north of university.

University runs North/south.

The only street in lafayette that consistently runs a direction is Cameron, and that's east/west. University starts north/south and ends up east/west just like every other street around lafayette. The infrastructure around lafayette was laid out by a 3 year old.

Not really and especially not enough to say something is located "north of University". University runs from the Thruway north to I10 and Carencro etc. If you were heading south on Univ., it does turn to the east after Pinhook for about 1/4 mile before you get to the Thruway and then turns into Surrey St on the other side of the Thruway.
If I'm the OP, I wouldn't live North of W. Congress.

Where are you going to be working? Are you looking for some place quite or are you trying to go out every weekend? Do you want to be close to downtown and the night life?

If you're looking for an apartment look at the crescent and Main Street at RR.

There are some nice apartments near the mall you may want to check out

Like others have said in here - south is the way to go. When I moved there in 2010, I was told the same "stay south of Congress" by multiple people. I had an apartment at Chateau Des Lions, which is across the street from the mall. Asides from the traffic being horrible, it was a great place to live. Didn't have to go far to get to anything.
