Bearded valedictorian gets his own graduation ceremony

AMITE - After Amite High School’s valedictorian was denied the right to walk across the stage because of his facial hair, some state leaders have come together to give the young man a graduation of his own.
Andrew Jones had a 4.0 GPA and was top of his class at Amite High, however teachers wouldn’t let him walk at the 2016 spring graduation ceremony because administrators said his facial hair violated school policy.
A statement from state leaders including Rep. Katrina Jackson says Jones was unfairly excluded from a ceremony that should have been a highlight of his young adult life. People who support Jones say a beard shouldn’t detract from what was an exemplary academic performance from the young man.
"They were just straight… you either got to shave or you ain't going to graduate," Jones said at the time.

“The Andrew Jones Graduation” will be held on June 17 at the African-American Heritage Museum, located at 1600 Phoenix Square in Hammond. The ceremony will be hosted by the Monroe Representative Katrina Jackson and Pastor Roosevelt Wright III, from New Orleans.
WBRZ
No, dumbass - you still graduated. You just didn't get to participate in the ceremony because you and your family decided to be attention whores about a beard that would have grown back by now.
Now the taxpayers of get to pay for it. YAAAAAAAAAY!!!

However, the move to provide a personalized graduation experience will allow him a moment in the scholastic sun that wouldn’t otherwise have been possible without the involvement of supporters including Rep. Jackson. “The Andrew Jones Graduation” will be held on June 17 at the African-American Heritage Museum, located at 1600 Phoenix Square in Hammond. You graduated, you just didn't walk
quote:What an attention whore. While facial hair policies are fricking retarded, refusing to comply (especially with that sorry arse excuse of a "beard") and then bitching until you get your own graduation is even more fricking retarded.

How is a beard agasint school policy?

My high school was the same way - no sideburns past the ear lobe, no mustaches, goatees, beards, etc. I complied even though I had to shave damn near every day as a teenager.
I have no sympathy for his plight.

This is the saddest part of that entire statement.
Edit: I misread. My brain changed the "a" to "the". But still

There's a whole lot of stupid in that. All the way from an individual ceremony for him to walk to a school that bans facial hair for a high school kid.

Since he obviously has a problem with authority he should go ahead and start up his own company because no one will want to hire his arse

School policy is my kids have to wear uniforms. I think it's stupid. So I should just be able to send them to school in street clothes and expect no repercussions correct?

quote:Again, beard policies are antiquated and pointless but if you budge on one rule it sets a precedent that valedictorians are above the school's rules.
