That's such a shite practice. I'm surprised so many places get away with it.

When going over my spending this past weekend, I saw that I had been charged the minimum at a bar (which was 3x more than what I had spent) that I didn't even know had one. Luckily it got resolved because they had never told me. But why can't these places be upfront about it?

No one fricks over their own customers like a bar. Except maybe a lawyer.

Yeah I hate having to go back on a Monday to retrieve my card after leaving it a bar on a Saturday night.

What's the minimum, like $6? Did you buy a bag of nuts?

The minimum could probably buy you 8 drinks at the store. Maybe I'm getting to be an old grump, but I have no idea why anyone drinks at bars.

The minimum was $25. I had one very very overpriced Bud Light for $6.50 (I got a 12 pack for $8.00 earlier that day) that I wouldn't have even considered purchasing if I had thought I had to purchase multiple drinks in there.

I never usually had a problem meeting the minimum, but not telling you at all and just charging it is way worse than telling you after you try to close, which would at least give you the option of drinking more or paying cash.

eta: And a $25 minimum is criminal.

You went to a bar.....

and ordered a Bud Light.

I find that more disturbing tbh.

Oh and that's why you hit up an atm before going out. Use cash and you don't have to worry about it.

If OP paid a cover just to buy one overpriced Bud Light with a credit card, I put as much blame on him as the bar.

Hell yeah I will. It'll usually be $5.50 out and you won't find most beers under $8.00 out. At that price, I could just get a mixed drink.

frick no. I will never pay a cover.

And $20 is supposedly pretty typical for minimums but I at least like to no before hand.
