Yes. The initial theory was retaliation for his being involved in getting Right to Work through the legislature. However, it turned out the Shreveport Public Safety Commisioner, George D'Artois, had him whacked. D'Artois was incredibly crooked even by Louisiana standards, and downright evil. Leslie had done the advertising for D'Artois' reelection campaign, and D'Artois paid him with illegal funds. Leslie refused to accept the check, and D'Artois was afraid Leslie was going to blow the whistle on him. D'Aartois was indicted for murder, but died of natural causes before he went to trial.
I'm writing all that from memory. I used to date a girl from Shreveport whose father was good friends with Jim Leslie. She told me the story. It's been a long time, but I think those are the high points. There's probably some information about it on the Google machine.
