My local bank (Ohio) just updated their on-line banking software. To continue to use the bill pay function I had to agree to the terms of service, you know, the pages of stuff we hurry through to click 'I accept" at the bottom. This time I decided to read through it and look what I found in section 13 paragraph d......

13. Prohibited Payments. The following types of payments are prohibited through the Service, and we have the right but not the obligation to monitor for, block, cancel and/or reverse such payments:

d. Payments related to: (1) tobacco products, (2) prescription drugs and devices; (3) narcotics, steroids, controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety; (4) drug paraphernalia; (5) ammunition, firearms, or firearm parts or related accessories; (6) weapons or knives regulated under applicable law; (7) goods or services that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity; (8) goods or services that are sexually oriented; (9) goods or services that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance, or the financial exploitation of a crime; (10) goods or services that defame, abuse, harass or threaten others; (11) goods or services that include any language or images that are bigoted, hateful, racially offensive, vulgar, obscene, indecent or discourteous; (12) goods or services that advertise, sell to, or solicit others; or (13) goods or services that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy, or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction; and

e. Payments related to gambling, gaming and/or any other activity with an entry fee and a prize, including, but not limited to, casino games, sports betting, horse or dog racing, lottery tickets, other ventures that facilitate gambling, games of skill (whether or not it is legally defined as a lottery) and sweepstakes; and

I stopped by my local office and expressed my displeasure to the branch manager. Looking for a new bank now.

Why are you using bill pay to purchase a firearm?

Regardless of what people on this forum say about interest rates and earning power, cash is king.

I have a good amount making good returns, but I keep a lot of cash for my discreet purchases.

What kind of fricking bank is this? But you could withdraw cash and pay for those items with cash right? My point, what are they expecting to stop?

And if I went to Nevada and wanted to go to a bunny ranch then go buy marijuana products legally, if I were using this bank it wouldn't allow me?

They need to open a branch in Cuba

I can't for the life of me think of 1 situation where I would use bill pay to pay for anything on that list.

A stupid lawsuit from someone who claims the bank enabled them could be the reason.

Either way it’s fricking sad

Sounds like they are listing of services/items that could be illegal to buy depending on what jurisdiction you are in.

Probably a CYA incase someone puts the screws to them.

So is the bank prohibiting the purchase of those items with your debit card, or through their bill pay service?

Just spelling out the road map for our future social credit score… I’d love to see a political movement to disallow without consent a financial institution from tracking what and how much we spend our money on…

Wishful thinking of course…

It’s not a vibrator, it is a “massage wand”.

Which, given how a number of banks quit doing business with gun stores and certain other businesses due to federal pressure, is not reassuring.

Not wanting to do business with Girls Gone Wild or similar ventures is understandable.

Guns, ammo, and knives are not moral turpitude problems for normal people.

Do you realize places exist outside of the US where you can use your card/billpay?

The future will be no cash and all transactions tracked. This is coming to every bank institution eventually because they want more control.
