Jesus Christ I hate that thing. I try to remember to turn it off right when I get in my truck, but if I don’t, when I come to my first light or stop sign and my engine shuts off it’s just an automatic reflex to turn it off.

Helps the manufacturers meet government imposed MPG standards.

It's there due to government mandates. It's useless and annoying. Furthermore it will help add wear and tear. The manufactures claim they use beefed up components which is bullshite.

The "chip shortage" has helped the removal of that feature.

Google Auto Stop Eliminator... I installed one in my silverado, quick and easy.

If you have it turned off every time you get in the truck itll automatically turn off, If you leave it on itll stay on every time.

Works great.

Pretty much this. Which is why they don’t give you a way to permanently disable it.

It saves minimal fuel during idling while stopped, but in turn prematurely wears out the crankshaft, motor mounts, and starter motor. Dumb as frick IMO.

I get that, just let me turn the feature off one time and be done with it. Not every time I start my engine.

I have an F-150 and get about 22-23 mpg. About 15 years ago I had a little Mitsubishi Raider and would struggle to get 16. I think we’re doing fine on the fuel efficiency front.

This feature must really be good for battery life.

Fortunately, in my vehicle the switch doesn't reset every time I turn my car off. I turned it off once and it says off every time I start up my car. I'd hate to have to do it every time though. That would be a giant pain.

Before buying the last new vehicle I made sure there was a button to disable it each time I start the vehicle. There are some vehicles without a button to disable it. I can’t imagine the frustration with the engine shitting off every time you stop at a traffic light.

I hit the start button, then the auto stop then put it in gear and move on.

Even if there isn't a button in the interior, there should be a fuse for the feature in the fuse box that you can pull.

In my wife's Subaru, there is no mechanism to permanently deactivate it without an aftermarket solution

From the factory with no modification?

That’s interesting. I was under the impression that they couldn’t use it for EPA fuel economy if it had a permanent disable option.

Do you know what the EPA fuel economy is on that vehicle? Maybe it already meets the standards and BMW sees it as an added “feature.”

On my 2019 F-150 all I had to do was unplug a cable under the driver side dash to totally disable it forever. I never towed stuff, but you might read up on it if unplugging it affects towing for you. Look for the fix on google or youtube.

Newer model Freightliners have this shite as well - so if a semi is in front of you struggling to get up to speed, you can thank the Bush & Obama admins for choking the life out of the power under the hood of the big trucks.
