Attended wedding in Guatemala. The bride prayed for a good husband

It was very sweet. During the bride's wedding reception speech to her husband, she told him that since she was a little girl her father taught her how to pray every day for a good husband. She would go to sleep at night and pray to Jesus that he one day send her a good husband for which she would honor and cherish.
And she meant every word! This was very important to her, her father, her mother, and her culture.
It was incredibly refreshing. I imagine it resembled a 1950s wedding where the woman truly appreciated her duty as wife to her husband.
It made me wonder how her wedding reception speech would've been received in the United States. With feminism out of control in the US, I fear she would've been socially slaughtered by femi-Nazis who would shame her for being an unenlightened pathetic woman...which is pathetic itself.
FWIW, this girl is a business owner, very confident in herself, yet plans to honor her husband and recognize his contribution to their marriage, their future family, and their life experience together.
Traveling to Guatemala for this wedding was like traveling back in time to the best American era - the 1950s - where society was sane and productive, and women were strong but honorable.

Yes, they have a murder every nine hours - definitely paradise.

Rates of crime in Guatemala are very high. An average of 101 murders per week were reported in 2009, making the country's violent crime rate one of the highest in Latin America.

Perhaps in Guatemala City. However, we spent no time in Guatemala City.
Our time was spent in the countryside which was absolutely breathtaking.

during our wedding, the pastor went off script and started going on and on about how the wife should always submit to the husband, I could feel my wife's hands rapidly tightening her grip on my hands and could see her face growing more and more "wtf?"
its just something we laugh at now
and BTW, I in no way believe your little story

In Guatemala it's expected. However, marriage submission does not mean social submission. Guatemalan women are still very independent and success driven...

That's okay. Doesn't change the fact that I was there for a wedding, but you can believe what you want! Free country and all...

The hell? You do realize that the 1950's was pure hell for many women? They had virtually NO protection against abuse, nowhere to go, and no resources to turn to. It was "easier" for them to suffer through a rape quietly than be publicly ridiculed in court. This just scratches the surface. Have a big downvote dude.
