Astronomers educate me, could all the planets be in different “stages”?

Here’s my questions

Is it possible that all the planets are essentially in different stages that take billions of years as they get closer to the sun? So billions and billions of years ago Mercury was like earth, earth was further away from the sun, etc…. Then eventually billions and billions of years in the future Mercury will be absorbed by the sun, the Earth will essentially become Venus, then Mars will be inhabitable and so on?

My understanding is that the Suns gravitational pull has the planets circling it kind of like how water circles a drain (I understand it’s more complicated than that), so is it possible they eventually get closer and closer and go through stages, earth is just currently in its inhabitable phase, and Venus was before it, and Mercury before that and so on?

Or am I definitely a complete idiot?

Did you know Wade Boggs drank 64 beers on a cross-country flight?

No, that’s not possible. The planets are in a stable orbit around the sun as the moons re around the planets. You have to remember the sun is not the only part having gravity. The planets do as well. They work against the sun to create a stable orbit.

We're probably fine until the sun eventually caves in on itself and creates a black hole.

Planets have definitely experienced different climates and atmospheric composition over the life of the solar system, Earth included.

Coming at you with sincerity, can you explain to me why we know for sure this isn’t the case? Remember I’m a complete idiot so keep it simple.

This makes some sense

the sun is less than 5 billion years old, so nope, not possible.

The first sign of intelligence is knowing that you don’t know very much.

So you have that going for ya

Pluto is still going through puberty. It’s not officially a planet yet.

Our sun isn’t big enough to create a black hole, it’s going to explode

So you’re asking if the Sun eats planets or produces them?

In planetary astronomy, the grand tack hypothesis proposes that Jupiter formed at a distance of 3.5 AU from the Sun, then migrated inward to 1.5 AU, before reversing course due to capturing Saturn in an orbital resonance, eventually halting near its current orbit at 5.2 AU. The reversal of Jupiter's planetary migration is likened to the path of a sailboat changing directions (tacking) as it travels against the wind.[1]

The planetesimal disk is truncated at 1.0 AU by Jupiter's migration, limiting the material available to form Mars.[2] Jupiter twice crosses the asteroid belt, scattering asteroids outward then inward. The resulting asteroid belt has a small mass, a wide range of inclinations and eccentricities, and a population originating from both inside and outside Jupiter's original orbit.[3] Debris produced by collisions among planetesi
