Planning a guy's trip out west in August and Aspen was an option that is being considered...

Anybody ever been in the summer? Decent nightlife and energy? Or does it become pretty dead in the summer?

The main focus would be fishing/rafting/outdoors type-stuff, but we obviously want to have a good time at night as well.

Thanks for the input ya'll. That's what I seem to be hearing. We're just a fairly young group of guys, so if there's a solid nightlife to go along with the daytime activities, we're sold on it. We're just trying to do our homework on that aspect of it before we start making any serious plans.

Belly Up usually has some good bands playing. Ajax Tavern and J Bar are cool bars.

Visit Aspen Brewing for a tour and free samples.

Also plenty of hikes, rent some mountain bikes, or take fly fishing lessons.

Hike to Crested Butte. It is 8 miles or so. You will pass through Maroon Bells. It is absolutely amazing

I'll tell you where. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Aspen.

Not to mention the fact that marijuana is legal in Colorado.

We did Breckenridge last summer. It was great. Town was great, activities: white water rafting, horse back riding, hiking, drove to the top of Mt. Evans, etc. Highly recommended...

When you say family trip, are you saying you went with your parents, etc. or that you went with your own wife and children? Can you really judge the nightlife if you're there with the wife and kids?

I've never been during the winter, but the summer was awesome. The gf and I stayed at Elk Mountain Lodge which a friend owned before Bill Koch bought it. This was several years ago, but there were nice restaurants and cozy little bars in town. Plus we went white water rafting which was amazing and hiking at the maroon bells. I would highly recommend it.

I went to Crested Butte last summer. I did the Maroon Bells hike. It's off the charts. Going back the week after the 4th.

Colorado much better in the summer.

Just got back from that area (near Alma, CO) last week. Whitewater, ziplining, ATV riding were great. Woke up to a dusting of snow on June 8. It was tough to leave.
