Asian owned/run convenience stores

Can someone help me with how we got here? I live in a rural area, and I'd guess that at least 90% of the convenience stores within a 25 mile radius of me are owned and run by Asians. Preferential loans? Work ethic? I don't have a problem with it, I'm just wondering about causes.

probably an interconnected, family-run drug ring and money laundering scheme

In my experience they are mainly middle eastern owned. Asians own the donut shops/dry cleaners

They don't mind working 18 hours a day, 7 days a week and sleeping in the storeroom for a generation.

They were willing to run a store in areas that most people weren't.
That's how it started. Props to them.

Taking over the world, one pedicure, one massage, and one buffet at a time

Relatively low barrier to entry cash heavy business. When you have limited means or ability to get into other types of work and a distrust or ignorance of the banking system, I can see where it would be an attractive way to invest in yourself and your family.

You can make a distinction, but the Middle East is Asia. I intended its inclusion.

You realize the Middle East is considered Asian correct?

It may be technically but I don't know anyone who calls someone from Saudi Arabia an Asian.

Ask for the massage parlor in the back

Not really germane to the OP but there is one fairly nearby that is in an old Time Saver building. I went in there to get something one time and they not only had all of their children running around behind the counter but live chickens too. I guess it's a heavily family oriented culture.

This is the answer. Convenience stores are a pain in the arse, cash business with a lot of theft by customers and employees. Asians have their whole family there to run it and don't mind working 24/7 and living on site if needed.
They don't have to worry about employee theft, since only family works there.

Israelis are constantly being called Asians.

This a mostly Texas phenomenon from what I've seen
I don't think any other state/city has a local generic donut shop in every shopping center like Dallas
