If a Sheriff comes to your home and tells you to stop doing something, you stop doing it. Sorry, but that dumbass is out of $1200. Don't feel bad for him, and don't think the shooter should face any consequences for it. If the sheriff hadn't gotten involved I might feel differently, but the shooter took the appropriate route before taking it into his own hands

I don't understand why it's a question of whether you can or not shoot these things down on your property. The FAA and Property law states that private land owner's have limited property rights up to 500ft. above their property to prevent litigation and arguments over trespassing. Above 500ft., the fed. gov. is sovereign.

In short, if the drone is less than 500ft. off the ground and over your property I'd shoot the fricker down.

There's been no ruling that states this. Something is coming though, believe it. After Christmas there's gonna be a lot more of these incidents.

I see you said limited....limited doesn't include shooting flying things within 500 feet agl. The offending party could be charged with nuisance however. It's hard to prove it and as we see in this case people exaggerate and lie to support their argument.

Sad thing is the hunter will probably get in trouble.

If it was me, I would have told them I was shooting at a squirrel and missed.

Honestly, what is the point of a drone that doesn't take pictures?

Drones are the scum of the world. Shoot them all.

Vidrine to the Ascension Parish deputies:

"This isn't the drone you want."

Dude. RC helicopters and cars are fun regardless.

Why does it need a ruling? It was established long before drones came around. It is fairly black and white unless you live near an airport.

There'll be a day when feuding neighbors have drone fights in the sky, and I can see that becoming a reality show.

Such a poor understanding of things. Just because it's your property and someone else is trespassing (assuming that they are in fact trespassing) does not give you the freedom to shoot them or their property.

If you put up a no trespassing sign on your driveway and someone drives up to your house, would you shoot their vehicle? If so, you would still be guilty of a number of crimes, attempted murder possibly included.

Hernandez said he has enjoyed flying the drone — which he said has to be flown 200 feet or higher or else it will lose its signal and crash — to photograph the area.

So, between 0 and 200 ft, it will lose signal and he can't control it? I call bullshite! But let's say he is correct. How the frick does he get it from the ground to 200 ft up and then back down thru that region?

Shooter's house might be second driveway from dads property on 22. Looks like a small barn (?) with round pen and several horse trailers. Might also explain how drone boy had time to run over asking him not to shoot it.

Good. Homeowners should have the rights to the first 500' of airspace over their property IMO.

Shoot them down or get your own drone to knock it out of the air.

Just one of many obvious wrongs in the story. Either the subjects are tards, lying or the reported is horrendous at her job.

I don't know why we don't just set up anti aircraft/anti personnel cannons on our homes and smoke everything that comes within 500 feet. If they pull in your driveway to turn around put a 70mm slug in their skull. Trespassing after all. Murika.

And you consider a drone a person...

It should not be flown over someone else's property especially in a harassing manner. I hope more of them get shot down.

Setup your own drone Air Force fleet with sling shots and take out drones over your own no-fly zone.

I laugh but I don't want drones buzzing around my head or over my property.
