FWIW it was reported (in my area) there would only be 1 inch by around 5 pm and there was 3 and a half at noon.

Sis-in-law said she also abandoned her car on the roadside and walked almost 5 miles to get home

I saw an Atl school official on CNN say it was not forecast this bad until yesterday. That was a lie.
Here in the Atl the forecast earlier (friday, saturday) was for more snow to the south and just a dusting in the Atl and northern suburbs. They updated the forecast on Sunday morning to include those areas with 1-3 inches of snow. That is what happened.
I live on the south side and our schools closed and I left work in Atl at noon. Fulton Co, Altanta, Cobb, Dekalb and several others went to school. Parents then went to work.
All these schools got out at the same time and workers left work at the same time. Add in all those semi-trucks and the mess has happened. If the schools would have closed most of this would not have happened

Actually a great point. SLA planned better than mid SE.

people need to learn to stay home in shite like this. the world isnt going to shut down if you are away from work for a day or two. It isnt worth risking your life to go make money for someone else.

NOLA didn't get near as much as Atlanta

That's my point, but it sounded like it was more cautious and is not a national news story this morning.
ETA: The problem appears to be way too many cars on the road. And people blaming on having to get kids. Our schools were closed.

I hate this whole North/South bullshite. Guess what, there is a reason the Northern states can handle snow better than the south, they dump a lot more money into preparing the streets and city for these events. It doesn't make sense for ATL to spend like NJ in snow preparation for snow we get once every 3 years. The only thing the south should worry about is telling people to stay the frick home when we see this is about to happen. There is no reason schools should have been open yesterday.

I need to hit 459. I think south(west) is okay.

Yes, but half of America gets significant snow more than once every few years and have plans and experience with it. We arent prepared for this...

. There is no way I would let my child stay over night at school. I also couldn't blame this on the administrators of the city or school for me waiting on them to decide what's best for my child. I would have known the forecast and planned accordingly.

Explain that to Employers who strong arm people into working . I am quite sure most would love to just take a couple days off(like me).
