A newly indicted murder suspect remained at large Monday (May 22), partly because New Orleans police personnel tasked with bringing in violent wanted suspects were instead assigned to mandatory security duty last Friday at the Gen. Robert E. Lee monument removal, according to multiple law enforcement sources. Members of the NOPD's Violent Offenders Warrant Squad, a unit within the Special Operations Division, were not available to seek out and arrest newly minted murder suspect Troy "Ville" Varnado Jr. late last week because they were in the midst of 16-hour shifts maintaining order during the removal of the Confederate monument, four law enforcement sources independently confirmed

He'll probably get that indictment overturned once he can show that he committed the murder while the monuments were still up.

This is a story he's been waiting to write since last week. It's absolutely true, no matter how much Looney denies it. They should ask when the warrant was received by SOD and what attempts SOD made to execute the warrant prior to the statue coming down.

The statue crisis is apparently equivalent to "The Purge" for New Orleans. Whatever goes as long as those statues come down

Guys, you're missing the big picture here. The statues are probably the whole reason for the murder to begin with.

If you take them down, no more murders.

I for one feel better that they were there to ensure peace could finally prevail over this hatred filled city.

Troy "Ville" Varnado Jr.:

Murders before statues take down: 1
Murders after statues taken down: 0

See, it's working

The amount of police vehicles they had stationed under the expressway on Friday morning near St. Charles Ave. rivaled anything I'd ever seen during Mardi Gras.
