Are you the better version of your parents?

What do you think?

No. I have nothing in common with my parents.

I certainly hope so. I would hope that each generation gets a little better.

Don't know. Ask me in like 30 years and maybe I can answer.
I'm more successful at this point in my life than my parents though, if that is what you are asking.

It's hard for me to compare myself to my Mom and you asked "parents". No comparison with mi madre.
As far as my dad, I've been about as successful professionally and I am a bit better on the home front. He had a much harder childhood and had Okinawa battle service so I'm going to say he and I are about on a par with each other.

My Pops is brilliant and foolish. I'm neither.
My Mom is completely self destructive. I'm not that either.
I had to overcome them to have a great life.
Petty much any time I spent with my Mom past age 12 and with my Dad past age 17 was to my detriment. It's almost like that was another life to me it's so far in the rear view mirror.
The one positive is that my kids have already eclipsed me. I have no idea how I got such great kids.

How so? He's just saying he isn't like his parents. Doesn't mean he doesn't still love and care for his parents. I'm nothing like my mom and dad. Still love them(even though they drive me crazy cause I have nothing in common with them).

I'm probably on par with my dad at this point in my life. The leg he has up on me is military service.

Sure. It can be financially.
Or emotionally. Mentally.

You are just like them. You will realize one day.

They were better in their own way and I miss them.....

My answer:
I have the best parts of my parents. And that makes me a better version.
I have my dad's attention to detail, humor, and smarts.
I have my mom's smarts, stick-to-it-tiveness, and compassion.
They have other flaws that make them a mess, and even more a mess when they are together.
But somehow my genetics got all the aforementioned character traits.
