Are you an organ donor? And if not, why?

My dad died in February from an aneurysm and we donated his organs.

Yesterday we received a thank you letter from the woman who received his lungs and it brought me such joy (and some sadness too)

It was so touching to hear how he helped improved this woman’s life and how grateful she is. I’ll cherish it always

Just thought I’d share. Maybe some will reconsider their stance if against organ donation

Of course I am. What use are those organs to me if I'm already dead?

I am absolutely an organ/tissue/everything donor. It's on my license and all of my family is abundantly clear on my wishes. Anything that can go to the living should.

Yeah it’s my understanding that you also have to convey your wishes to your family, the license thing isn’t enough or something?

I think it helps the hospital know your intentions, but I'm certain that alone would not allow them to proceed. They still need someone to sign for you.

I don't reckon I'll need my lungs once I'm dead so might as well give them to somebody that can use them. I don't really understand why you wouldn't be, you're dead you don't need your organs anymore.

I'm an organ donor and always encourage others to be ones as well.

So many lives can be saved by being one. And it can help the loved ones (such as you and your family) in their grief. Knowing that something good can come out of something so horrible.

Thanks for sharing the letter with us Paige. I'm sure your father would be so happy to know he helped a grandmother spend more time with her family.

I'm not due to an irrational fear that doctors won't work as hard to save my life if I'm in a catastrophic accident once they know I'm a donor.

The harvesting team, transport team, hospital, the doctors all make FORTUNES doing one of these procedures.

When they include my beneficiaries in the money, I will agree to it.

ETA: Sorry for the loss of your dad, Paige and he did a genuinely nice thing.

Family needs to know because if the organ procurement agency talks to the family and they refuse...they have to ultimately honor the decision of the family.

If they can salvage anything useful out of this wreck of body of mine, they can have it.

They make fortunes off of every other procedure as well. That gonna stop you from going to the hospital for treatment when you’re sick?

Thank bullfrog

I really can’t understand your sentiment tho. Everyone makes money doing their job, especially doctors

Why not help save lives? And bring some comfort to your loved ones
