I don't want to "look" like an amateur, either. I figure I'll fix that by practicing and improving my game.

Looking the part is easy.

I want to become it, not just impersonate it.

No way you're more than 14 or 15 years old. Does your mom know you post here?

Let me guess, they also told you bright chartreuse balls are all the rage too

It's really "faux pas" and is French for a blunder or mistake, especially regarding social interactions. It's used in the plural form.

Yay for high school French!

I currently have a black one. Never had anything other than white before. It was the exact same glove except a few bucks less so I pulled the trigger. Feels a little weird to be wearing it honestly

I'm just starting. Only got gloves (white, though it doesn't matter much) because I've been practicing so much and was getting blisters from not holding the club correctly.

So, don't worry about how you look. I've got $60 clubs, $10 gloves, and $30 shoes, and I'm improving my game before I spend too much money.

Keep it cheap and simple until you're confident in your play and playing more regularly. Anyone on the course will tell you that because they've all told me that.

how can you have just started and be giving advice. that's dumb. and $60? i spend that on beer for a round

I don't buy my own beer. Someone else always gets it for me

I'm not trying to give advice. Sorry, because I realize it came across that way. Just trying to give you confidence that no one will really care what you're wearing - as long as you're improving, that's what matters.

But, I'd be more than happy to drive to wherever you are and wax that arse by my white belt, white glove, shitty club swinging self.
