Are there some categories that do not apply to addiction?

Like sex addiction? I mean addictions are abnormal dependency on something. So let's say you win the lottery and just want to move to Vegas and live at the Bunny Ranch. That is totally normal given the circumstances. So why is sex the topic of addiction?

Food is another one. People make food addiction out to be a bad thing. However the real culprit is lack of exercise. Take Michael Phelps for example. The dude downs 10k plus calories per day during training. So food addiction is not accurate. It is really lazy arse syndrome.

Granted you may be addicted to some substance but I'm just not buying the whole sex addiction excuse.

This is a good question, but unfortunately half the people on the board can't think in depth enough to have this conversation.

Most people are addicted to something. That can range from Drugs to relationship drama to even something seemingly benign like a hobby . Anything that can cause that "rush" feeling is up for grabs

apparently that includes yourself since you offered nothing of substance to the conversation.

sex and the risky behaviors that can accompany the pursuit or acting out can be addictive.

Can't help myself

If you don't understand the difference between an eating disorder and the best Olympic athlete of all times diet then put yourself out to pasture.

Ed, I understand that the difference is only one burns calories on a level to consume the amount of food that he intakes and the food addict is a couch potato.

I have dealt with a lot of folks and their addictions. I think it is a case by case basis and has more to do with mental toughness (for lack of a better term) than anything else.

People using the DNA excuse for addiction are full of ahit imho.

You cannot help those who are addicted. They have to be strong enough to want to help themselves

Phelps doesn't eat that much anymore. His body could only handle it when he was younger and in peak physical condition.

Nah, not always.

I fight food addiction and I hit the weights 4-5 times a week. Hardly a "couch potato"

Amirite?

I wish. Shrinks seem cool.

Wouldn't insurance cover that kind of thing anyway?

I was probably the first person ever diagnosed with sex addiction. It was 1979. No one knew what to do with me.
Luckily I did.
