Are there really people who go around harvesting organs illegally?

You know like find you drunk in an alley, knock your arse out with chloroform, then slice and dice your arse?

Could you imagine waking up and realizing you have a big arse incision on your side, hopefully they would have the courtesy to stitch you up.

Edit: if you had a family member needing an organ transplant and you knew they wouldn't be able to get in time with the system we have in place...would you buy one to save their life if you had the money?

Just trying to pay their way through college, most likely.

I mean how much do you think an organ would go on the black market? $100,000 and up?

Most definitely. Skin and organ trafficking is a real thing. There's no shortage of crazy in the World.

You know how much money you could make from doing that? There's definitely people that will do something sick like that if they can make some serious money from doing it

Go on the deep web and you can tell them what you want and get a quote and if you have the money they'll go get it fresh for you

I'd imagine you can't just start cutting with no training. You've got to have some medical proficiency to salvage an organ, and you definitely need it to implant one.

The group of surgeons who have both the skills and the need for money of that type is probably pretty small, if it exists at all.

Anyone who would do this is lily-livered and heartless.

I don't think it would be necessarily the "need" for money as much as the potential for exhorborant amounts of money with no oversight. Kind of like the mob/illegitimate businesses. Yes, you can be a regular dr and do these things and follow all the rules and regs and insurance. Or you can go black market and make way more with way less hassle (unless you get caught).

Surgeons aren't necessarily rich once you leave the US. For example, there are some pretty capable surgeons (probably with US or European training) in Iran but since there's the little matter of a travel ban they can't exactly get a work visa here to boost their income.

I mention Iran specifically not to make a political point about immigration, but because Iran is the only country with a functioning market for kidney donations that is legal. That's right, if you're poor you can legally sell one of your kidneys.

Reportedly it works fairly well, and the wait times are much shorter than they are anywhere else.

I just saw a Family Guy episode on this. Meg got chloroformed while her Valentine date harvested her kidney. Meg gets screwed over, as usual.

You must not have gotten the memo. This was old a year ago. It's dead now.

I feel as if it be surgeons who lost their license due to malpractice or something.
