I am trying to find travel routes for staff that want to come to work and am finding that there are significant road closures on the Google routes as reported by DOTD.

Whom should I trust?

Google maps are based on cell phone data. Several roads were showing green because no one was traveling them however they were not passable. I would absolutely trust DOTD during emergencies like this.

DOTD website is showing that bluff Rd by my house is closed which is absolutely untrue, it couldn't be drier. So not all of their information is accurate either

Probably DOTD. It was showing 12 W was closed at Sherwood on Sunday but I was able to get on there.

This is exactly what has me concerned.

I suppose first responders could be traveling routes that are not accessible to the public just yet skewing the cell phone data.

the DOTD stuff gives you a good idea of an entire area but the actual road closures are most likely a day lagged behind of what's actually closed.

In the last hour the have shut it down at C Braud Rd. We had to talk our way past the State Trooper at the intersection of C Braud and 73...

I'm trying to find a way from Livingston to Geismar and I am having a hard time trusting that portions of French Settlement and Port Vincent and St Amant are all open.

The problem is the areas between the non flooded areas. I have been told that Both French Settlement schools are dry and being used to run operations but as you can see from these photos that many areas of hwy 22 have problems

Yeah I had given up on 22 already. I'll be hitting 42 to 16 towards Port Vincent and then decide either 42 or 431. Looks like if I am able to get there I may not be leaving for a while.

Google maps uses a lot more than just cell phone data

They are likely using DOTD data too.

Honestly, in my travels Saturday night and Sunday day attempting to get family members out of Denham, Waze seemed to have the most up-to-date information on closures but it did let me down on my way back Saturday night by telling me I-12 was open from Hammond to Covington.

I used Waze and the 511la.org site the most and they both seemed up-to-date. Google maps seemed just as good also.

I think if you use those 3 in combination, you can't go wrong...

Google owns Waze and uses the data for their Maps app.
