Are respect and entitlement really two sides of the same coin?

Are they two states of being that exist along the same continuum?

Ok, I’ll phrase it a different way. Can Respect for an individual or group of people lead to feelings of entitlement for said person or group?

In general respect is earned.

Entitlement is not earned.

Furthermore, someone with a sense of entitlement is often unaware and they equate it with respect. Most people can't stand someone that feels entitled.

Example - The New York Yankees are a well respected baseball team. They are respected because they win. But can this lead to entitlement where they believe they can win every game just by showing up?

Sure, because of the success of the team on the field. Happens a lot. Yankees or The Tide... same entitlement among fans that have literally zero to do with the success of the team on the field.

That's why so many fans hate fans of some of the more successful teams. People generally don't like anyone that comes across as entitled.

One is entitled to respect whilst entitled.

One is not necessarily respectful of entitlement whilst respectful.

tl/dr: The boy's mother was a surgeon.

Just FYI you have NO RIGHT to either respect or entitlement.

You earn your own respect and you are only entitled to your Constitutional rights. That's it period.
