Thread is not about who pays more or any of that nonsense.

simple question: is it too complicated?

Why do we need to hire someone at 200$/hr or have a computer software analyze our information on shite we dont have receipts for?

The tax code is something like 60,000 pages. That's pretty complicated.

Tax rates are not what makes our tax system complicated.

The various deductions and phaseouts are just the tip of he iceberg.

But yes our system is likely too complicated.

The problem is how exact do you want them? Take a household of $50,000 that could be a single guy or a divorced mom living with her retired parents supporting 3 kids.

More complicated is usually trying to be more 'fair'.

maybe not. but, i'd vote for a flat tax rate. Hate the idea of punishing people for being successful.

Anything to do with our government is going to be too complicated. Any interaction with them requires that you hire an accountant, attorney, whatever. We basically have to pay private companies because we are productive members of society.

Keep in mind that while nobody else has a tax system that is so "rules based", if they ever need guidance they come strait to our code.

I don't know about too complicated in general, but definitely complicated to me.

I just did mine on Friday as my first year self employed. I put aside a certain amount of money all year, and had both an accountant and someone from H&R Block tell me I was probably going to be cutting it close.

When I finished up with TurboTax on Friday, I owed $1200 less than I set aside. Obviously that sounds like a good thing, but it makes me wonder if I did something wrong.

Every body should pay 10% to federal and 5% to state and that's it. No tax returns or any of that bull shite everybody gets taxed the same all the way across the board...
