They've always been a pain in my arse. I have been dealing with them for the past two months trying to get a new job, and God damn they don't call anyone back. I called one lady probably 10 times over three weeks and left maybe 7 messages. No return phone call. I finally caught her on the 11th call for her to tell me that a company had workers in a position that I knew they didn't. Have been trying to get in touch with, and leaving messages for, another one lately also. The owner of the company even told her I'd be calling, but she won't call back. That's happened multiple times, but never for a company without an HR department.

If I've ever had a work problem or a payroll problem, I go directly to whoever is in charge of it. That's never been an issue with me. Always gets solved.

Payroll is done outside of a lot of companies. Lawyers should be taking care of the legal shite. Management should be taking care of problems inside the company and personal problems. Computers can do the original sorting through resumes. People that know about the position should be doing the rest. They just seem like a hindrance. Are they the SJWs of the business world?

they are a pain in the arse to deal with only because of their function...and that function is to keep the company from getting sued...

Owner of the company is telling you one thing, and her another.

Yes they're beneficial, you're stupid if you think otherwise. They're a pain in the arse sometimes, yes, but they serve a very important function.

HR people are required to pass a bar exam? If you're gonna get sued, you're gonna get sued. I'd rather get my advice on a sketchy situation from a person that is actually a lawyer.

I have worked at large companies with HR departments, and they are just another layer of bullshite to go through when a problem needs to be solved

What is that? I just laid out plenty of things that could be done better with people who already work for a company, and you wouldn't be required to pay salary and benefits to another person

Always remember that no matter what bullshite you're fed, HR is most definitely not there primarily as a resource for the employees. HR's primary function is to protect the interests of the company and to shield the executives. Never go to HR with anything that you think could come back to haunt you.

They have helped me get rid of employees who were cancers. They hold you to task to do things the right way which is often a pain in the arse. Thankful to have had excellent ones during my career.

Sounds like you're trying to get on with a very large company. That's harder to do. They're too bureaucratic. Look for a company with 50-250 employees. That way they aren't feeding your resume into a database and doing a keyword search. A medium sized company just looks for good people and finds a place for them.

Think of it like a football team. In the pros, you look for a 3-4 outside linebacker or a tackle who fits into a zone blocking scheme. In college, you look for a five star recruit and get him on the field, even if it wasn't where you originally planned to use him.

I know how to deal with the computer resume stuff. This is for companies that either aren't advertising or I know someone who recommended me. Personal calls

Yea, lets pay someone $500/hr to write up compensation paperwork and deliver it and submit it and track it...Then, let them do exit interviews too. Great use of capital...

HR is a way for companies to avoid lawsuits and pawn paperwork onto other people that cost less

If you knew the owner you wouldn't be dealing with HR. Your knuckles are weak.

No, I just wanted the exact job at that specific company that the guy who runs it told me was open. That's why I was so persistent.
