Are conspiracy theorists the most dangerously stupid segment of the population?

(I'm including 9/11 truthers and anti-vaxers in this group.)

Seriously, I have an old high school acquaintance who is constantly flooding Instagram with the most absurd bullshite - things like weather modification and why vaccines are making people autistic.

It's completely unfounded, but there are alarmingly large groups of people who agree with this ideology. Any and all "sources" are a joke, but that means nothing to them. When challenged, they accuse their detractors of being "asleep".

Most people know this is crazy, right? Surely I'm just overestimating the support that these theories have.

Here are a few examples of the drivel I see from these people on social media:

Does he really believe it or just find it entertaining? I have someone on my feed who posts Stay Woke memes and Sandy Hook conspiracy theories. I doubt he would believe both.

I used to think this, but over the past 4 years of Wikileaks, we have seen some of the craziest conspiracy theories proven to be absolute fact. We have disclosures that the U.S. government actually did secretly spread radioactive isotopes in bad neighborhoods in the 50's and 60's to measure their impact on birth defects. The government did use cloud seeding to extend the monsoon season in Vietnam in an attempt to wash out the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The government really does spy on us through all of our electronic devices. The major media outlets really do coordinate with the DNC. The DNC contracts with firms to bus in voters, collect absentee ballots from the mentally incapacitated at nursing homes, and actively rigs primary elections. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has admitted that it was at least partially responsible for 9/11.

At this point, if all of the above are true, and have been proven to be such, are all of those other theories really that farfetched?

Yes they are. And they span all the way across the spectrum, left to right. It used to be almost exclusively the Right in the 1950s- 1970's until The National Review took down the Birch Society and then it shifted back to the Left. Now it's both, idiocy from all sides.

There was a famous essay decades ago called " the paranoid style of American politics" . You should read it.

All I will say is "truth is stranger than fiction." We have definitely lived a life of extreme programming and thanks to easily accessible information available, people are waking up more every single day. I personally believe nothing I'm told or that is pushed onto me unless my gut instinct tells me so.

The left / right paradigm is the main thing dividing this country. I truly believe it's all one big circus and can't stomach much more than only sports on TV. Just my .02

Not sure about dangerous, but the most annoying no doubt.
Luckily I've only known one in real life and didn't even know him well.
Had some kind of mental problem and would never shut up about conspiracy shite.

I am by no means saying that we know everything there is to know.

What I'm saying is that if there is some mass theory to sedate our population with vaccines or control the weather, that the mystery won't be solved by a bunch of druggies on Instagram.

I have never been called " a sheep" by anybody who demands respect . It's not really the preferred term for persuasive people, or even adults. It's basically like admitting you lack the ability to argue in the arena of ideas but you can say a stupid cliche and quickly back out of the room.

Weather modification and geoengineering is real.

Here is a link to an article on Harvard's website discussing it. LINK

I'd say the new style Democratic party is. They're so stupid and clueless, as are their followers.

I'm mainly talking about the extremist.

The government fuels this kind of thinking with its actions. Unaccountable agencies like the CIA and NSA, many of whose activities are top secret, nonexistent WMD's in Iraq, going to war without getting approval from Congress, prosecuting whistleblowers under the Espionage Act, demonizing Snowden and Assange, blaming the election of a president on a foreign power.

These are not actions of a government that is particularly trustworthy.
