I tried the Apple Vision Pro in a demo at an Apple Store today. Have y’all seen anything about it? It’s crazy new immersive VR/AR tech in a headset. I have to admit, it was really cool and unlike anything I’ve experienced in tech. However, all I can think is what negative affects this will have on our society as it will likely be phone addiction on steroids. Thoughts?

Way too expensive at the moment. My guess is Apple is trying to create some serious buzz with it, which they’re doing, and make the average Joe think it’s unattainable… then they come out with a way cheaper one and everyone wants to buy it.

I don’t see it being like phone addiction. It might be like that at first (kind of like AR was for phones, like Pokemon Go), but people mostly text and use the browser on their phone when they’re glued to it. Phones are so easy to pull out of your pocket and put away at the drop of a hat. You can’t really do that with a headset, but I don’t ever see it being “normal” for people to just have the thing on just for that all the time, it’s AR but it’s still a headset you’d be taking it on and off too much which would be a hassle. When you have a headset on you’re “in it” and if you’re out at the store or something, it doesn’t fit in your pocket, you can’t just bring it everywhere in all circumstances.

We've been through a number of these "VR headset about to take over" moments. They're always too expensive, don't really have that much every-person appeal and can make people sick.

Apple used to pick their spots and hit them hard. Now? They are into everything from credit cards to TV/movies. The isheep will be all in, of course, but I still think we've got a number of years before VR becomes widespread.

Still too bulky and cumbersome for everyday usage. As long it requires wearing a large headset don't think we will really see wide adoption.

Obviously Apple product buyers are a large % of people and this will sell more than most. But I don't expect everyone in the office to wear one.

Forget porn. If Apple wanted to sell a billion of these things all they have to do is add a feature that makes your naked partner look like an OT-10 while you're fricking.
