A Minnesota couple's car was repossessed, and now, they're fighting to get something out of that car that's priceless: An urn containing their baby boy's ashes.
In October, Wayne and Amber Walberg bought their 2005 Town and Country minivan from Mathison Motors in Clearwater. At the time, both had jobs and the $300 monthly payment was not an issue.
Not long after, they were out of work, and the family began missing payments. Last month, while attending a family funeral, the van was repossessed. Among the personal items inside were social security cards, birth certificates and most important of all, the ashes of their infant son Zach, who died in 2013.
According to the couple, the dealership is now asking for a $350 fee to get those items back.
"They told us on Wednesday that we had Thursday or Friday or we couldn't get Zach back,” Wayne Walberg said.
Now, by law, the dealership is well within its rights to repossess the van, but what is less certain is the law surrounding the items inside.
According to Minnesota state law, a creditor can not take items they did not help you buy. The Walbergs said that applies to everything inside the van repossessed by the dealership.

They were at a funeral. They probably just got them.

Don't know about the law but these people seem to be pretty damm dumb. They were driving a vehicle which apparently they didn't pay much for and kept their prized possessions in and now want people to feel sorry for them.

There is no issue here, except that people cannot do the right thing.
Couple should have done their best to make payments. If anything get a fast food job and make at least some payment. Talk to your lender. Try.
The towing company should do the right thing and give them their personal documents and the urn back without trying to get more money out of the people.
People are so cruel to each other these days / irresponsible ie paying your debts and notes. It really is a shame.
