I was on a National Airlines DC-10 that was the first to land after the airport was closed most of the day. The airport was empty, but flights kept landing and no one could leave. Before it was over, it looked like Mardi Gras day on Canal St. Finally got a returned rental car and made my way home dodging closed, flooded streets. Forget how long it took.

The ol “May floods”. They were a benchmark for so many years until Katrina decided to laugh at those numbers and proceed to to erase them from most people’s memories.

1995. We were coming back from our Senior trip, at Disney World, and we got stuck in Alabama for hours. Got back to the school and everything was underwater.

My grandmother lived in the Fountainbleu area. I remember my mother talking to her on the phone when a motorboat passed down the street in front of her house (she lived on the second floor, thankfully). As a kid, I thought that was so cool! Her car was completely flooded, though.

ETA: After Katrina, I went to that house and estimated the waterline above the street to be at about 7 ft.

Yes. And the April 2d flood the following year.

And the great snow of ‘72.

I remember the 95 May flood. Had skate night at airline skate center that night. Ride home it was pouring and we got out of school the next day.

It was may 3 1978 for those of you disputing it. I was in school at St Anthony on Canal street and we were able to make it to David drive before we had to get out the car and walk the rest of the way to my cousin's house

I lived a block off west end on fillmore. My roommate helped me push my broken down jetta down off the driveway into the street where it inexplicably flooded

Oh yeah, the first I can remember.
Had never seen so much water on the roads. Got trapped at strip mall we were doing on the best bank. Got more fun as the night progressed.

May 3rd in 78 and May 8 in what 95? I was in first grade in 78 and had to sit on our desks as the classrooms were flooded. My dad came and got me and we could not all the way home. He walked in the flood waters with me in his shoulders for a good mile or so.

I was 9 years old. I remember I got stranded at school because my parents could get to me.
Remember the 95 flood as well. I had just started a new job. I drove an SUV and was one of the few people that made it into work that day

It was May 8th 95.

ETA: I got rescued by a neighbor in a pirogue in Destrehan. I just sat in the house watching the water rise. It sucked.
