you do realize neuropharmacology is a TOTAL crapshoot… mental health professionals have a basic idea when diagnosing and prescribing, however, two individuals can have the exact same diagnosis, be given the exact same medication, and respond to that medication way, way differently….

it's not as cut and dry as say, bacterial meningitis… or staph infection…

it's trial and error… unfortunately, the time it takes to figure out something isn't working can end up being months…

Same here. I had one the other day about being able to fly and go through walls, and it was semi-lucid so that was fun. I think I've had one about falling off a cliff or something though. THOSE I try to forget.

I have a script for Xanax for flying. I have claustrophobia and being confined in an aeroplane freaks me out. I take 2 xanax a couple of drinks and listen to Jack Johnson while on a plane just to cope.

I fly alot for a living. Don't judge me.

Xanax is highly addictive and scares the crap out of me. I wished I didn't have to fly. I get about 4 refills a year. My doc and I monitor my usage.

Pills can be so dangerous, I still have a prescription for xanax that I havdnt refilled in months. Human body can become dependent on them and the withdrawals are far worse than the anxiety was to begin with.

You start to not even care if you're alive or dead anymore, they strip you of your empathy, compassion, passion, respect, etc. They blind your mind's eye.

Somewhere in the Anti-Life equation you'll find the addition of benzodiazepines.

High dose Zoloft is the best route to go for anxiety and depression, but the sexual side effects (limp dick and weak ejaculate shots) are a real pain in the arse.

I did the benzo route for a time and got addicted and dependent, and before I knew it I was taking nearly 80mg of Ativan combined with 20-40mgs of Klonopin. The withdrawal nearly killed me and I still to this day have thought and speech damage. It's like my thoughts and mental reactions are delayed to my speech and actions, so I simply cannot deliver what's on my mind in words expressions. I'm still like sort of like an Asperger or slightly autistic person and socially strange around people.

I would never recommend benzos to anyone.

It's not as easy as just "getting over" anxiety. Yes you can work through certain areas but it can also come without any warning.

Lexapro is a bitch when you start taking it, even worse when you quit.

I take a small amount of Lexapro daily–20 mg–with no problem. But the gist of what you're saying is true-what helps one person may cause nightmares for another. I had that experience with Zoloft and Wellbutrin–that shite made me fell like a rabid vampire or something. You just gotta investigate till you find one that works. God knows there are enough meds out there to look at.

Another suggestion: Dioxepin, an old-anti-depressant and anti-anxiety med. I take 20mg of Dioxepin daily along with the Lexapro. It's working well for me.

No...no you weren't.

ETA: perhaps you meant 8mg of Ativan and 2-4mg of Klonopin.

20 mg is the high dose. i started with 5 mg a day for 4 weeks, then 10 mg a day for two weeks, then moved to 20 mg a day after that. tried it in the morning and it made me want to sleep all day, then moved to 20 mg at night and it made me want to stay up all night, now i take 10 in the morning and 10 at night and it works perfectly. After i got that regulated I started with the 1mg klonopin prn, but i rarely use it, its just there. Then Trileptal 600 mg.

The problem with benzodiazepines is that they do exactly what they're supposed to do: prevent the brain's anxiety circuitry from reacting fully to anxiety-provoking stimuli.

We know that the treatment of choice for just about every anxiety disorder involves experiencing anxiety and gradually acclimating to it. The human brain will NEVER acclimate on its own to anxiety while bathing in benzo broth. Period.

ETA: I wouldn't give my dog Xanax. From a pharmacokinetic standpoint, it is without question the most addictive prescription drug out there.

I had a terrible reaction to Wellbutrin. It was brain zaps, no matter what I did it was like being shocked.

Well, then ... small for me. I got "issues", I'd be the last to deny that.

But that brings up another point--I take 20 mg of Lexapro and 20 mg of Dioxipen daily and I feel okay--no chronic depression or anxiety, none of that shite. For me then, 40mg is normal. For others of course, that's a lethal amount of SSRI to be taking, while for others still, 40 mg is just a breakfast snack. These things--the meds and their doses--are unique to the user, no one size fits all.
