Where are you located? If in the New Orleans area, go see Misti Suri at Ochsner. He did my surgery in '08. He is affiliated with the Ssints. Guy is good. I had the labrum repaired and bone fused back together in my shoulder. No pain after the surgery.

Currently ~10 weeks out from repairing a type 2 slap tear. Rehab is slow, I could not believe how much range of motion and strength I lost in that arm. As others have said, the only sure fire diagnosis can be done with an MRI, spend the extra cash for a contrast MRI and make sure they can see the tear. If in Atlanta look up Spero Karas at emory (falcons head surgeon) He is great. My freind had the same procedure somewhere else and he seems to be having more complications.

If you look down frequently and notice your shoulder is out of socket. It's likely torn. I used to wake up in the middle of the night and it was popped out from rolling over. That happened umpteen times before I had surgery.

I've torn the labrum in both my hips within this past year. Had my right hip scoped and fixed and about to have the other repaired. I have a congenital issue call femoral acetabular impingement that has caused mine over time. Recovery is a beotch for hip labral repairs and osteoplasty repairs. Takes up to 12 months for full recovery. I'm sure the shoulder is different and somewhat less invasive but still not necessarily easy by any means. From experience, the hip labral tear is quite painful to live with.

Partial. Got under bench and didn't warm up (foolish) bottomed out and felt intense deep burn. I heard it tear.....it sucked. This was back in 2004 when I use to power lift with a world record holder from the New Orleans area. His name is Jesse Kellum and he was a great coach who had taught me never to try and just throw up some weight without warming up. It was only 315 and I use to rep out with that so I figured just hopping on the bench and throwing up one rep would be nothing. Still gives trouble to this day.

I had a slap tear. It hurt like a mofo, but a cyst would swell occasionally and put pressure on a nerve ending and would bring me to tears. Worst pain ever. When Id think things were ok I'd try to push my kids on a swing or throw them in the pool and instantly be on my knees.

Took me two years to fully rehab but I'm back stronger than ever, but my traps are a little off balanced. Should have made more rehab appointments before trying to hit the weights solo again.

Tore mine pretty bad.. Just about a full 360 tear with a small bone chip. Had artho surgery on it around 10 years ago. I can do everyday activities, but cant throw anything worth a damn or do any explosive over head lifts.

I've heard many people recover fine with the surgery, but just be aware you are likely to lose some mobility.

Had surgery last Wednesday for a repair of 2 SLAP tears; some rotator cuff debridement; and some bone issues. Still have a bit of pain and will be in a sling for 4 weeks. Will be in PT for 3 months starting September 15 2x per week. I hope to be back swinging a golf club next spring.

Good luck to you.

Interesting thread.

Had an MRI last week that was reported as a SLAP tear and long bicep tendon subluxation. Ortho seems to think it is just the bicep tendon. Any type of horizontal press and I feel it pop out of place.
Starting therapy this week. Hopefully surgery is not needed, but I want the best long term option
