With fraudulent activity and identity theft cases on the rise I've been thinking recently of signing up. Anyone have any experience with Life Lock and would you recommend it?

I have it. I don't know if it's worth it, given the odds of being targeted, but it is reassuring when, for example, I buy something for zero down zero interest from a store and before I finish checking out, they've sent an alert about it.

I do and I recommend it. I had someone open a Lowe's credit account under my name a long time before I started using them and getting all of that straightened out on my own was an absolute nightmare. You know how hard it is to prove that you DIDN'T do something?

My brother uses them as well and they caught something for him. Someone had opened a bank account in his name in Arizona and started loan papers, credit card app and all of that. All it took was him telling LifeLock that it was not him and they handled it from there. He just gets email updates on what has been happening.

I have the Ultimate Plus for myself, fiance and my 20 yr old son. I'm about to drop him and let him start paying for that kind of thing on his own. My brother, his wife and my Mom/Dad all have it as well.

And yeah, it does feel comforting when I open an account and my phone goes crazy with texts, phone calls and emails wanting me to confirm it is really me doing this. That is exactly what happened to my brother except he was in his backyard grilling when his phone went nuts. They shut it down with a quickness.

I did get a little bit of an "I told you so" moment out of it though. I've always preached to him NOT to use that godforsaken debit card. Well, that's how they got his info and the LifeLock guy confirmed it as well. He didn't outright tell him not to use a debit card, but he said he would recommend charge/credit cards to all of his customers.

I agree. We have it and have had multiple attempts at stealing our information. It is a shame it has gotten to this but we can't risk it any longer.

Do they allow you to add family members to your account for a discounted rate or is it the same price per person?

Each of the three major credit bureaus (Experian, Transunion & Equifax) offer similar services for less money.

Life Lock is ripping you off.

I pay $23.99 for each of us per month. I think it's like $30 normally. You can call and get their deals.

FWIW, I use Zander Insurance for ID theft protection. Probably a good idea to use them as a comparison.

All you need to do is put a freeze on your credit with all three agencies. It's easy and free. After that no one can check your credit, much less open an account against it. If you want to apply for a loan or credit card, you can put a temporary lift on the freeze.

I've heard about that but have never researched it. I've dealt enough with them bastards in the past to clear my name once before.

That's your opinion and may or may not be true. I really do not care if I'm paying a little more than I should. I know I'm protected with LifeLock and it is affordable so there's not much more to the equation to me.

I'm not a salesman for LifeLock or an advocate of theirs so I have no dog in the hunt. If it's too much for some people then fine, but I think everyone should do something even if it's with your recommendation.

What about people trying to open bank accounts in your name?

I know a different guy named Todd Davis that uses it. Not The CEO.

Stout, do you have email I can contact you on? I don't use the one I used to.
