This seems like the kind of thing that would ruin the father son relationship for all times. But it does happen.

happens more often than you would think...

Have never, could never, and would never do that.
One time when I was 16 I thought I could. I was quickly proven wrong.

My Dad is 6'2 270 and played professional football. There was no thought at any point that I was going to whip his arse. Hell, I'm not sure I could do it now.

My security detail keeps him in check most of the time.

I came in one night at about age 17, drunk and popped of to my mom. My dad, (golden gloves boxer and Korean War Vet) put me in my place. As I recall, I took a swing and the next morning a contractor was repairing the drywall in my room Dad knocked me into.
Fast forward, when my oldest son was 16-17, he popped off to my wife and I leg swiped him to the floor in the foyer, pinned his head with my knee and said..."I'm gonna let you up know, but you are going to behave or leave". He said, "Yes Sir".
His younger brothers witnessed this and to this day I have had little trouble with them, (some but not much).
I would not want to try any of them as I am old and out of shape now, but I am still their Dad and will kick that arse if need be.

My dad was a former bodyguard for a lot of influential people. He marched with the KKK and with Civil rights leaders, all as a bodyguard never as an activist. Told me Bill Wilkinson(once a KKK grand wizard) was an informant to the FBI, and that David Duke was brilliant and could've been president if he wasn't blinded by hatred.
Btw dad was only 5'9 160. Martial arts kind of guy.
Saying all of that I tried to punch him like six times when I was 16 and he blocked every one easily grabbed the back of my head and threw me on the ground, we were playing around but it was ridiculous how quick he was. So no never fighting him.

So you rely on physical abuse as a primary parenting tool?

No, my Dad can still probably whoop my arse. I wouldn't think about taking him on.

So when a kid is 4 playing in the yard, and they see a ball roll into the street. You think they have the logic to say, hey a car may be coming so I won't go, or I won't go bc I will get paddled? Don't give me kid can't get a way from you that fast bc then I'd know you Def don't have kids.

Long story, we were arguing and I was cursing at him, being very disrespectful. He got fed up and blind side/sucker punched me. The first and only time I have ever seen stars he hit me so hard (I deserved it). I went into a rage and attacked him. Punched him multiple times in the face. Did not knock him out but he immediately quit. Still hurts 35 years later. He is long gone.

No. My family isn't trash.

No, I rely on putting them in their place when need be and it works. Lemme just say, they all respect their Mom and me. If it takes and arse whoopin then so be it. If you wanna try something else, go for it. At my house I am in charge...period, (of course second to the wife).
