I dropped my phone and cracked the screen but I am paying for insurance. When I got the insurance, the guy at the store made it sound like it's really easy to replace the phone. He said with insurance, I can just bring in a bad phone and they'll literally hand me a new one.

My question is is it really that simple? Has anyone ever gone through this?

Last time I used insurance, I had to call Asurion to file a claim and have it replaced. Had to pay a $200 deductible and they overnighted a new phone to me. This was also 2 years ago so maybe it's changed since then.

eta: you're probably better off just going to a local screen repair shop and having you're screen replaced as opposed to using insurance.

They definitely do not replace the phone in the store. They will overnight you another one but it might be better to bring it to Apple to have them replace the screen because that will be cheaper than your deductible

If I remember correctly, you have to fill out forms online and the insurance company will ship you a new phone. I think you will be required to ship the broken phone back to them.

I used the insurance a couple of years ago. I left a 3 day iphone 5 on an international flight and was told by AT&T that I had to complete the forms online. It was a quick process and I had a new phone in a couple of days. The insurance company didn't even question my claim.

Screen replacement is less than your deductible. I found a guy on Yelp, met him at a Starbucks, and he changed out my screen in about 10 min. for I think $60.

Paid $100 for apple care. Replaces phone twice. Well worth it. Including water damage.

I'm glad I had it when I lost my phone. Asurion was real quick and easy. Had a new phone in a day.

Well...after you hand them $200 deductible...the only reason I got it is because with the next plan, if you lose or break the phone, you still have to pay full price of phone ($800+ for iPhone 6+), so $200 is a bargain comparatively

It's the same now. Did this two months ago.

You have to pay a copay based on what phone you have. I pay $29/month thru ATT for multi-device policy(large family). It covers all phones, laptops, etc even if the laptops have nothing to do with ATT. Policy has paid for itself many times since my kids are always fricking up.

ps - to answer your question Yes its that easy but you have to fill out online claim and they overnight new phone. Ive never heard of the store giving you one but I guess its possible. Example just replaced an iphone 5 that went for a swim but the deductible was $199 or $99 I forgot.

PSS- NEVER report it broken, always say LOST/STOLEN. You then sell the broken phone on ebay or wherever and it pretty much covers your deductible.
