I'm interested in building my own sectional and ottoman frame and then hiring a professional to do the upholstery.

I am very early into the formulation stage...Just curious if any of you have done something similar and how did the project turn out?

I'm building my own computer-

I've only had boat & automotive upholstery done for me by a professional and it was well-worth the money and result. I tried doing it myself. No bueno.

Not difficult to make your own frame, but upholstery is expensive. It can sometimes be worth it and sometimes not.

I would say that you could do it, if you really want to...but I am not sure where you will find some of the materials (like springs, etc.). I would be afraid that it will either turn out too soft or not soft enough just because of the combination of materials that have to be used.

I do think you could do ok in building the framework, but it will need to be a lot stronger than what you are probably used to building or it will get loose and start squeaking, etc. if you look at an existing piece of furniture, you see a lot of reinforcements like corner brackets, etc.
