Anyone have a dog with EPI?

Preston (1) got diagnosed with EPI today.
The meds we ordered are $300 for a month's worth, and it's a lifetime maintenance treatment. The enzymes have to be put on everything he eats and it doesn't go away. To think that if he made it to 10y/o that it would cost $36,000. I'm probably in complete denial over this, but does anyone have a dog with this condition that could shed light on how it is to live with it?
It doesn't look good... He's my buddy and I can't imagine having to put him down.
(he was younger in this one)

It's nice that there's an option to treat him, but Holy shite, almost 40K is unimaginable to me.

I hate to hear this man. Had to put my 10 year old boxer down a few weeks ago and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

It sucks man. We put Claude down when he was 11 or 12, then Sophie got all depressed. We got Preston as a replacement to keep her company. Would be really sad for her to lose him too.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if my parents paid it. All the kids are moved out so the dogs are probably the only things keeping them sane.

Sucks man. Found out a couole of weeks ago my 4 yr old bulldog has lymphoma sucks to find out your buddy is suffering especially when you had no clue. Hopefully the additive works and he lives a long and happy life.

Do the dogs feel okay throughout? Or are they always feeling shitty?

I have no advice for you, but that's tough. If it were my dog, I would try to see how they respond to the meds for at least a couple of months, then see what happens.

I have 2 dogs, I love my dogs, I don't love my dogs more than $300/month...but I wouldn't hate on anyone who would decide to pony up that amount.

sorry to hear bud! Get the meds and take care of that pup. My old lady had a weiner dog we paid $3500 to have an mri done in a human hospital. Found out it had (hydrocephelis) i know i spelled that horrible, but basically it holds fluid on the brain. Woulda been dead in a couple months. Treated with steroids and fluid meds daily. Lived an extra 8 yrs!

Right--usually manageable to some degree. Do what the Doc says and be prepared for a bit of trial-and-error. No one size fits all treatment protocol.

My mom has a dog with pancreas problems. It's a little 3lb chihuahua. Her dog has had it for at least half of her life. My mom has to sprinkle some powder on the dogs food before every meal and let it sit for maybe 30 minutes or so. It's not really an issue. The little dog is 13 now. As long as you medicate his food like the doc says he should be fine. It's not a death sentence at all.
To answer your question about if they always feel shitty or not. Not at all. They lead a normal life. You just have to keep them on their specific diet and can't give them snacks or anything.

Seems like a lot. Do some digging and see if you can get this to a more affordable treatment plan. Dogs can typically do well once you get the supplements figured out.
