Email the visitor center and talk to a park ranger. I had family fight at Cold Harbor and was curious where his regiment made the attack.
They have a ton of resources and even scanned some articles and maps.
With that help, I found that his regiment was in Grants Ill fated second attack that he regretted the most. Even mentioned it in his memoirs.
As far as my relative, he was wounded and captured and died at Libby Prison. No known grave at the cemetery in Richmond due to them moving the graves after the fall of the city.
Cool stuff, and the park rangers love discussing and helping find information.

Thanks, I'll be there the wednesday after the 4th, looking forward to talking to the Park Rangers and checking it out.
