I don't think they offer it anymore, but it was basically Home EC for guys. You took it as part of a shop or ag class.

Essentially, it was how not to die after leaving your mama's house. Here's how you write a check, here's how you make spaghetti, here's how you vaccuum, here's how you clean a toilet.

Best damn class I ever took. Still use what I learned on the daily.

Was something similar offered in Louisiana?

I never took it but I wish I could have

Lots of little skills guys need to learn but often don't -- how to sew on a button, ironing, shopping for groceries, basic cooking

I've read that when you change the name from "Home Economics" (is that even offered any more?) to "Bachelor Living" or somesuch the number of guys taking the class skyrockets

What? I learned all this stuff when my parents made me do it as a kid.

Is this the class where they teach you how to tie a tie, shake hands properly, and look at someone when you speak?

Not exactly, but we had a class in 8th grade that was a little bit of that, plus some etiquette and health (minus the sex ed part, of course. It was Louisiana, after all.) IIRC it was half a year of regular science, and half a year of the other stuff.

No shite. I had that class every Saturday. It was called "Hey! Come over here and hold/turn/push/slide this for me."

It was called Bachelor Survival at my school. They even had some BBQ pits on the side of the school and they taught them how to grill.

Oh I don't clean

I enjoy cooking when I have time to really cook

Eta: I could clean...it's not hard, but if I wanted to pick up after myself I'd have stayed single

Home EC class was required in my middle school in SC.

Didn't have a class like this offered in HS. Sounds interesting

I didn't need a name change to know taking HomeEc in middle school was a good idea.

As soon as I found out we would learn how to make a homemade pizza I was in.

Learning things like how to sew and how to properly clean up grease was just a bonus.
