Yes, walked out of my family's business when I was young. Was treated like crap and never given a pay raise (it was deserved). Have never regretted it.

My brother left for various reasons. But he's recently decided to come back. I think he realized he still has to deal with other people's bullshite wherever he works and can make more money working with me.

No, you don't know what you are talking about. He was treating all of the patients after his dad passed, offered to purchase the practice from his mom, then she presented an offer that was insane so he declined to purchase the practice.
His responsibility to the patients was to ensure their continued care and he did just that, writing a letter to his current patients notifying them of his decision to relocate and offering to transfer their records.
He performed his duties as the dental board would have intended, so nothing to see here.
