Curious on how long it would take.

I know it’s ~135 River miles in that area. Is that pretty close to the levee miles?

I’m not sure how long it would take but I know you wouldn’t be able to bike on the levee all the way from BR to NOLA. They finally finished paving from downtown BR to Lauberge but, after that, you have to bike River Road. I’m not sure how far before you can get on the levee again. As much as I enjoy riding my bike, I’m not sure if I’d try because of having to ride on portions of River Road.

Downtown Baton Rouge to Auburn park is 124 miles atop the levee. Taking River road will chop off around 24 miles.

I just looked at the satellite view. Seems like most of the levee is double-tracked gravel with the occasional paved section. The only spots that I’d have to get off the levee are near the pipe crossings for the refineries.

Unless it’s private land and not open for public use.

Man that river has so many curves - frick that hard. It's aggravating to travel the levee by vehicle much less ride a bike on it.

I’m guessing you mean just staying on river road, the levee doesn’t have bike path all the way down it and river road skips away from the levee in several spots

They do (or used to do) the Rouge-Orleans ultramarathon straight down the levee. I think you’re free to try it. Problem might be if you want to knock it out during daylight you’d have to do it in June and it’ll get hot - otherwise your solo bike riding down the levee in either BR or Nola in the dark.

I wouldn’t want to ride that much on gravel. That would leave you to ride River Road. Doable but you should with a group for safety. Also no way I’d do it without Garmin Varia Radar. Those gravel trucks are going way too fast on RR and the pavement is pretty tight in areas especially curves.

I've driven the levee from Donaldsonville to BR then from BR back down to the Sunshine Bridge. Took 4 hrs of (slow) driving on top of levee and behind levee to avoid detection.
I was in search of prime Catfish spots.

Round trip from audubon park to ormond/destrehan is 60 miles. Which can actually take 3.50 hours.

It's a beautiful ride but the shitty part is the wind. If you catch it coming back it's awesome. If you catch it going out, not so awesome. And much much safer than the lakefront routes were you are literally taking your life into your own hands

I knew a guy that said he had done it before, but it may have been on a moped. But he was saying you can't actually take the levee the entire way due to paving issues. Guessing that meant you have to get onto a road at some point and get back on it. Granted this was like 10 years ago when I heard this and it was likely a year or two earlier when he actually did it.

I used to ride from the Fly to Destrahan and back. This was 10 years ago, I wanna say it was 45 miles round trip.

The wind will get you and it sucks when it dies
