My best friend got sent to st Stanislaus. After he proved he had “corrected his issues” he was able to go to St. Paul. He ended up committing suicide. His parent were well heeled and very strict with impossible expectations.

I was a boarder at one of those schools, and my brother was a "day hop" at the other. The "day hops" did seem to have a suicide problem. Probably SSA / OLA too.

Jeezus that's crazy. Were these kids neglected or just generally mentally ill?

No. But met a good friend in college who’d been sent away in high school. He was a true degenerate. Great guy.

You too? But when I got to LSU they were some of the funnest to hang out with. I realized it didn’t fix shite. All it does is put a bunch of bad kids in the same room and they get worse and just come up with better ways to get away with it.

Was always the threat I heard my rich friends parents using with them. My best friend's dad went there, and wanted to send his boys, when he was mad at them. I had a second cousin who got sent there, and one of my brother's friends.

I've thought about that over the years.

No, I did not ever observe anything like neglect or mental illness.

One of these poor kids' dads had a very full, public life that might have made him a bit inaccessible. The other guy was a year or two younger and I really didn't know him.

Seems like the rumor mill always pointed to some girlfriend. And you can never rule out the possibility of some kind of horrible, behind-the-scenes sexual abuse, I guess.

I went to a military school in Roswell, NM. Not bc I was a jagoff but bc the public education system in Houma, LA is dog shite. Definitely a good decision on my part.

Idk how well-known it is. Had people from all over the world though. It was a fantastic experience from my perspective. I wanted to go to USAFA but I grew to be 6’6” and couldn’t be a pilot.

Went to Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville,GA for a year. My mom wasn’t happy with my academic prowess and wanted to get my mind right. It worked. There were a bunch of kids with millionaire parents. My suite mate was Manuel Noriega nephew. He was pretty cool. His dad was the interior minister in Panama.
A lot of the students were in trouble with the law back home. Mostly drug related. Judges would tell parents either they go to juvenile detention or send to Military School.
They had a helo pad at the school where parents could fly a chopper in to pick their kids up. My parents made me take fricking Amtrak from Gainesville to Hammond when zi came home.

I got the tour one summer at a military school and was going to get enrolled if I didn’t straighten up. I did.
I had several friends attend Marion Military Institute and all turned out great except one. The one is facing attempted murder charges right now. He’s feral and just can’t be rehabilitated.

Also, I asked to go. So when you hear about people who hated New Orleans and wanted to leave, I had that shite figured out when I was 10 years old.

My bad cousin got Chamberlain Hunt. I lucked out with a stint at All Saints. We’re all alright, for the most part
