Escorting HS football team busses rolling into town on a Friday eve?

Spring of my senior year in HS during spring practice, I looked across the way as I was leaving school and thought about how glad I was I wasn't out there any more. It's kind of like basic training; glad I went through it, don't want to go through it again.

Last Friday night one of the busiest streets in town (ambassador near whole foods) was pretty packed.
The cops were flying through traffic with school buses following.
Seemed like they were creating a pretty dangerous situation just to escort some high school students around.
