is there a woodpecker that makes a double knock other than the extinct ivory bill?

Not a bird expert by any means, but sometimes the pileated woodpecker does a double.

Yes, a woody makes a double knock.

thanks. figured it probably was from the brief look i got at it. then i heard it double knock and sprinted out into the swamp after it.

Yes. It is a smaller version called a swamp pecker. Tons of them in St Helena parish.
One is a Lord God and the other a Good God
