More questions:
Run your fingernail over it, if you leave a mark, it's graphite. If not :
Could you lift it easily? If yes, probably lava (the cooling cracks as the lava surface cools first before the interior)
Basalt from massive flows (cf. Idaho and the Snake River) would be a lot heavier and probably have sharp edges...columnar basalts.
Coprolites are smaller and often browner.
Slag would be very light and the gas holes would be variable in size.

-Put a torch to it and see if it burns, exercise caution
× Did not burn. Also got a crazy look from the ol lady when she came out to me torching a rock in the backyard.
-Does it put a streak on concrete?
×Yes very dark black streak that now wont wipe off the garage floor
-If you wipe it with a gasoline rag, does it dissolve?
× Didn't dissolve but left the exterior really shined
-Run your fingernail over it, if you leave a mark, it's graphite
× Left a mark
Guess I have a big ol chunk of graphite.

Nice. I've never held a chunk of graphite in my hand. We don't see much graphite in West Louisiana.
