Been a long time for me, got out in th late 90's. Aviation was a great career, as long as you wife is all in for this it can go very well. Living conditions better for family in Air Force however
All my service time was in the Army, proud to have served in that branch.

I didn't want to do the 5am PT, the field time, or another deployment. The main thing though was that I didn't like the lack of control over my career. I wanted to be able to decide where I was going to be stationed next, and what my next job was. You have to commit to another few years after the initial commitment (I was scholarship) before you get to know what's going to happen to you next. It was really as simple as that.

Thanks. Another thing I've been asked was if I would consider coming back in, keeping my rank (E-5), and putting in an OCS package at some point in the next year.
Is that something you'd advise? I know in the USMC guys would get told that they'd get to go to OCS in a year and would end up never being allowed to go by the command. Is the Army something I can trust to allow me to go or is it just a ploy to get me back in?

What type of background do you have? I think you said that you were an 0321, right?

Yea, but that was a long time ago. That skill set doesn't necessarily translate over to the civilian side. I know the Army has programs but that's a whole 'mother selection process that i'm simply not going to do. I'm too old at this point for all that shite. I've done my deployments and had my fun while in the Marines.
I'm completely fine with getting a Signals officer MOS and going that route. I just want to make sure the wife and kid are going to be well taken care of and that i'm going to actually get paid what the internet says i'll get paid.

It helped me plenty. What's your degree in and what kind of work have you done as a civilian? Any clearance?

Degree in CJ. I've worked in sales and AM since i've been out. Police Depts in LA just don't pay anything. I had a secret while I was in but not sure if it's still valid. I've been out since 2010.

Ever look into doing counter-drug ops or criminal intel? The clearance might be an issue, but you have the background and education.

Is there any need for CPAs that have no prior military background? Is their any division similar at all to JAG?

What I preach to my lieutenants is that once you knock out your KD job as a CPT, you are largely in control of your career. Whether that's a broadening assignment, functional area, or doing the conventional thing where you end up an XO/S3 down the road. They have to stay engaged with their branch manager and not be afraid to tell them what they want to do and why they think they'll be a good fit for it. Or if they're looking for something else (BOP, FA), know the requirements and apply. Don't count on the Army to take care of you (my words to my guys) in that regard if you haven't made the effort.

A secret it good for ten years. If you did 4 years and got out in 2010 you're probably really close to it being expired. Assuming you hot your clearance after you completed BRC.

Do you remember when you did the interview? Just a year is fine. You are good up to 12 years in most cases.

I honestly don't remember getting an interview. I remember my family members being contacted but that's about it. Maybe my clearance wasn't as high as I thought. Maybe just a basic security clearance.

If you were an 0321 you should have a secret clearance. You should have filled out this massive form with pretty much every piece of personal identefiable information you can think of fo you and your family. For a secret you normally wouldn't go through an actual interview unless there was something they wanted to clarify.

It's been awhile since I did my initial. Might have just been a form. I have a different clearance, too, so maybe it's different. You should have a secret. All of the teams we supported did.
Either way, when did they do the other interviews? If it was 2006, you're still within the PR window and that's a positive.
