I need to drop in a LS3. How much for such a job?

If not, is there someone you recommend?

An LS4 is better.

Done a couple of swaps of early engines but it it’s been a while.

It’s more complicated than ever on new vehicles.

when i last swapped an engine, the wires to the engine were two wires to the starter, one to oil pressure sending unit, one to water temp sending unit and one to the coil. so, no, i am no capable, but thanks for asking.

Why not an LS10 or an LS99?

Probably want something reliable and easy to maintain to replace their crappy OEM 5.4L engine in their Mustang or F-150.

i priced this very thing last year for a silverado

average price was $1200-$1500 labor

its pretty involved to disconnect and reconnect everything so it will be around 12 total hours labor

in the end i decided to just have my engine completely rebuilt like new again. total cost for having that pulled, redone, and reinstalled, was $6000

im happy i had it rebuilt, but it did take the engine guy 8 months to get around to doing it since a lot of people are doing this rather than buying new vehicles.

i hope that helps you with your decision

Let's see. Last time I did this you could see the ground when you had the hood open.

Small block Chevy.

I guess not. Sorry.

I could do an engine swap on a Model A or early Jeep/GPW. New stuff - no way.

I could probably do one on a mid-90's Jaguar, because I have, at one time or the other, replaced every part under the hood in those unreliable cars.

Don't get me started. I had a late 80's Porsche and had to have every weird metric tool known to man to work on it and still banged up my knuckles on the regular. And who puts the hole to set the timing right under another part that has a tiny screw that mounts it right over the timing hole? Yep, Porsche did. If you didn't tape that hole shut you were possibly going to have to pull the transmission to get to the clutch to get that damned screw out. I never made that mistake but more than a few guys on Rennlist did when working on their cars.

Pulled a tired 289 from my 67 Fastback and installed a 351W.
Did it all by myself until I needed The Wife (no pics) to come from the kitchen to help guide the cherry picker in so I could lower the engine onto the mounts.
That was 20 years ago.

LS swaps are very common nowadays. YouTube is your friend.
