Outside in 30 degree weather with snow still on the ground deep frying the 20 pound bird while 21 members of my extended family on all sides are inside warm and cozy watching tv.

Just me and the dog.

Anyone else like this?

Fortunately not. I have been in that situation though and beer and TV were my best friends.

Dog > people

You sound like the winner today, not them.

Honestly, you're right. Life doesn't get much better than this.

This. Sounds like you got it good in my opinion. Always liked me 30 min alone time on holidays, and if your with your dog I would count it as a win.

Just remember to fill the pot all the way to the brim with oil, and make sure the bird is still frozen when you drop it in there

Yes I have and it always seems that's when I realize how much I have to be thankful for........Then I realize my inlaws are still above ground so I pour myself another drink.

Outside with a beer, some snow, a dog, while being a man and preparing food for the family? Yea that's winning. Plus you don't have to deal with the extended family? Double win.

What are they watching on TV? Parade? Frankly, I'd rather watch a dog watch a turkey fry. You know the dog is happy.

I am failing to see where this is bad.

Peace, quiet, good smells from cooking, pup, and I'm assuming a drink. Sounds better than the alternative.

ETA Tell you what, you throw a can of snuff in there and that's a heck of a day, no matter what the day.

If I am to be honest. I love thanksgiving alone. Usually this is the mark of completing a 7 month long job. They have timed it to wrap the Tuesday or Wednesday of thanksgiving. Literally seven months of 60-70 hour weeks. To me four days of being at home, lazy, cooking the entire thanksgiving feast, enjoying the meal with my dogs. At some point we will crash on the couch, watch some football. To me that is thankful for the work I have had, dogs that are as loyal as they come and just another good year. I could spend Christmas with family but this day is for me to relax.
