And the millions of lives it destroys in the mean time is just growing pains from trial and error right?

How's the vacation and tourism scene in Venezuela these days?

Obviously affordable, with the only downside being kidnapped, put in a barrel, and set on fire.

Pros outweigh the cons, I'd say.

The scary thing about the Democratic Party is the up and coming leaders really believe socialism works. Hillary and Nancy et al never believed it. They just used the platform for their own power and wealth. These new Democrats actually believe socialism works and want to implement it here. The old democrats are getting ran off and I don't think they are able to let the new guys in on the secret.

This is true, you have a split in Democratic party. Very similar to when the Conservatives allowed the Religious right to take over. Republicans paid dearly, lost both houses and presidency. Democrats, if they allow the socialist loons to take over could lose everything for a long time.

Well, it does work in many places but not all socialist countries take the same approach. E.g., Denmark, Finland, New Zealand. Heck, a case can be made that socialist China vs. communist China is working.

I went to Venezuela back in 2009. Chavez was still around but things were just starting to go to hell. Absolutely beautiful scenery and the area near Puerto Ordaz is striking similar to Baton Rouge. I met a guy down there who had a bass camp in fact.

Puerto Ordaz had a very modern mall, better than anything I saw in BR. Unfortunately from what I hear it is now looted and stripped clean of everything.

When the USA stops paying for everyone's prescription drugs and world police, we will see how Europe's socialism really works. Also, it is interesting to see how immigration is starting to impact their beautiful system. These countries have been successful primarily due to their populations being all on the same page.

Separate, but important, issue. Immigration is not the source of Venezuela's problems. The poster was inferring that socialism doesn't work anywhere. As with anything, underlying conditions influence the outcome and dictatorial leadership will guarantee failure.

A large amount of immigrants are not going into China and protesting and trying to upend their way of doing things. China is a force. They are all on the same page. That is a big part of their "success".

People don't realize how much of the Chinese population lives. The people in the urban centers work themselves to death, and the people in the rural villages still live in the 1860s. The rich are getting rich there, but the quality of life is not good.
