For the second year in a row, a US armored brigade competed in the Strong Europe Tank Challenge against a range of European partners - and lost.

Austria, which didn't participate last year, took gold, while Germany came in second. The US came in third, but given the purpose of the challenge, that's nothing to be ashamed of.

"This is a competition, but it's not really about the competition," Sgt. Maj. David Glenn, 7th Army Training Command's operations senior noncommissioned officer, said in a US Army statement. "It's really about training, partnership, esprit de corps, and interoperability."

Typical new Army line of thinking that it doesn't matter if you win or lose its about cooperation. No, the only thing that matters is winning. ADP 1-0 states the mission of the Army, "The mission of the United States Army is to fight and win the Nation’s wars..." How can the Army win our nations wars if we are being out maneuvered and our gunned by Europeans? Imagine is HR McMaster at the Battle of 73 Easting said oh it's okay if we come in third place today!

Welp, looks like they don't need our help defending Europe. I say we let them take care of their own continent since they've proven their mettle.

I wasn't aware this "competition" was a war.

Seems like a big leap to say our military is on the decline bc of some bullshite competition that probably no one really cares about, except the Europeans.

Look forward to the military-industrial complex crashing and burning. The decline can't come soon enough. It's the source of most of the conflicts we see in the world today.

Doesn't matter. Wars are won on the ground not via air power.

So you're whining abusing not winning a non-competition? And somehow this indicates our military is on the decline?

Geez that is not sensical or bright

You control the air, you can win a conventional war. China's 50 million man army would get blown to shreds the moment they would even attempt to mobalize for an invasion.

That is 1000% false. You cannot gain and hold ground from the air, you cannot sustain an air campaign of the magnitude you are talking about longer than a month at most, and lastly look at the modern IADS air power will be operating in a non-permissive completely contested environment.

Fix your misleading thread title

You made it sound like our numbers are down when in reality you're upset about a meaningless tank competition against our allies.

In what is essentially just an exercise, yes it is about learning how to work well with allied forces. You do it that way so that if a shooting war does start you have a better chance to win when it does count.
