Waze took me through Bridge City when I was headed to Houston at 1am. One of the lanes, on the older side, was closed. I had never heard of the bridge or city before.

It's the only time I've ever, ever been scared on a bridge. It's definitely intimidating... especially because I had no idea about it.

Grew up in the area. In order to pass drivers ed you have to drive over both bridges. We, at the ripe age of 14/15, thought nothing of it. Puss.

Yes, Knight, you are correct.

I've driven over those bridges all my adult life with no issues other than occasional traffic backups. I don't recall my dad ever driving over one of them; they terrified him.

unnecessarily too high.

Can you please provide back up information on this? Or is this simply your opinion that is being generated by your menstrual cycle?

Why do they need bridges that high there?

Are there really big ocean going ships in that channel?

Can't remember the details but there was something planned up the Calcasieu but it never happened. So the bridge was built that high for no good reason. I could be wrong about this though. It's been a while since I heard the story.

I was heading to Sabine Pass in the middle of the night once and some guy was walking over the rainbow bridge in Bridge City. I didn't think much of it at the time. Found out later the guy did a suicide plunge from the top.

Partially correct. The bridge was originally built to accommodate vessels that were using the channel many years ago. Since then, due to various reasons, vessels of that size no longer use that channel. If the environmental issues at the site can EVER get cleared up, a new bridge will be built with a lower clearance and likely a more gradual grade.

Yes now that you mention this I remember hearing the hold up for working on the bridge is all the pollutants that would get stirred up in the sludge below the bridge.
