Also, 1.35 million raised for ALS since July 29.

Not to mention this:

@PSchrags: I'm told the ALS Foundation has seen a 1000% uptick in donations since the ice buckets kicked off.

The challenge was actually started by a person living with ALS and it kinda became trendy with people on USA today and I think Fox and Friends picking it up also.

No matter what the reason its gone viral.

My father died from ALS and our family is still involved with it heavily. We did stuff with the ALS house in NOLA and my mom and Gleasons wife are friends because of it.

Whatever the reason its gone viral, its a fantastic thing for the disease. More money for research is a fantastic thing. Even just the fact that people are talking about it and its part of social culture is going to do wonders for the disease.

I know the ballion of the videos on FB could get annoying, but who isnt really annoyed with FB right now anyways with the messenger situation and the constant promoted advertisements in the middle of my feed.

I think we're all ok living with it, it's just kind of confusing, which ups the annoying factor. Nonetheless, I hope it continues long enough to raise a ton of money, and I'll just deal with being confused and annoyed.

Sorry for your loss.

It isn't annoying to me. The first time I saw it was when Scott Fujita was challenged on twitter. He did it and challenged Jay Glazer and Rodger Godell. I hear Belichick is even going to do it. I like seeing these guys participate in stuff like this, even though I have no ties to ALS other than seeing Steve Gleason go through it on social media.

I thinks its great.

An ice bucket challenge isn’t what helped Jonas Salk find a cure for polio.

Ive been aware of it for a while, just from being involved with the ALS society in different aspects.

It starting hitting my personal feed when Sid Crosby from the Penguins did it and now the Penguins feed is blowing up with them all doing it.

My mom told me yesterday that the Pike chapter at ULL is talking about doing it. My father was a Pike at Tulane and the ULL chapter went out their way to make some time for him at different events etc.

Im exempt from the challenge, as I got to live with it = )

But money did. Money comes from awareness. Awareness comes from marketing. Marketing comes from multiple places including having celebrities do stuff like say your companies name in front of millions of their social media followers.
