Meh, real men still raise their kids how they want, not in accordance with societal dictates. Maybe this is more the movement from rural lifestyles to more urban.

You can stop reading here because this new study (or at least the article you quoted interpreting it) is obviously complete bullshite.

Oh, he can still be whiny but I'm trying to get that out of him. He's rough and tumble. They are kids and will get hurt and cry but the thing is to reward when they don't, and have them self regulate when they get older.

Yeah the author either didn't read the study or didn't bother to edit his own editorial.

You didn't have couples showers when men were men.

That's because we are allowing our boys to be raised as pussies.

While I mostly agree, I do think some things (such as kids who are really into being educated and being book smart) are mocked more than when I was growing up. That I have a problem with. It contributes to an increasingly dumb society.

They are coddled and rewarded for all sorts of behavior, not specifically "girly" behavior. Have to carry a damn cookie in my pocket these days.

The data is of interest because researchers have found grip strength to be a strong predictor of overall muscular strength and health.

But can they help their mates cap the Armory or deliver some nice Y balls (thru passes)?

A group of scientists in North Carolina measured the grip strength and pinch strength of 237 healthy full-time students. The average 20-to-34-year-old male was able to apply 98 pounds of force when gripping something with his right hand – but in 1985, the average man could squeeze with 117 pounds of force.

I'm sure society migrating from rural to urban areas has a lot to do with this.

My dad's 60 and I'm still amazed at the amount he can carry. I lift way more at the gym but functionally, my old man's stronger.

Nah, some urbanites still retain their masculinity. It's being stripped down by culture warriors. The new social pressure is pushing men to be far more feminine. I think you'll find the new stripped down masculinity in groups or neighborhoods where people engage in groupthink. They're like packs or herds.

Glad my wife and I are raising our 2 boys to be men.

Too many younger parents turning their sons into p***ies and not making men out of them. Their kids get a paper cut and the parents send them to a specialists instead of telling them to suck it up.

I blame the upper-middle class suburban lifestyle.
